Well I think we can put the steroids controversy to rest. Sylvester Stallone has calmed my fears. I never knew how smart Sly was.
NEW YORK - Sylvester Stallone says he used human growth hormone to get buff for the new "Rambo" movie, and defends its use.
"HGH (human growth hormone) is nothing," the 61-year-old actor tells Time magazine in its Feb. 4 issue. "Anyone who calls it a steroid is grossly misinformed."
Because it is nearly undetectable, HGH has become a substance of great concern in major league baseball and other sports battling allegations of rampant doping.
"Testosterone to me is so important for a sense of well-being when you get older," he says. "Everyone over 40 years old would be wise to investigate it because it increases the quality of your life. Mark my words. In 10 years it will be over the counter."
Stallone directed and co-wrote the new "Rambo" movie, which arrived in theaters Friday.

Though I have never been a fan or Stallone, as a career biotech researcher I can tell you he is absolutely correct in his statements about hGH. Its not a steroid and it is virtually impossible to detect untagged bio-identical hGH hormone supplementation in athletes (or any one else) from people with naturally elevated levels of the same naturally occurring hormone. That's something that you don't hear in Mitchel's political self-serving and uninformed sound bites.
The coming future of age related disease treatments using bio-identical hormone supplementation is going cause further havoc with the scientifically ignorant and the morally naive sports fans. The real moral issue in sports is not the use of natural hormone supplementation - but one of not using it so that competitors have equal levels of those hormones. With equal levels of hormones - then training and skills become the separating factor - not genetics. Those people who are naturally athletically inclined have higher levels of natural chemical messengers like hGH and testosterone as a result of their genetics. Those who don't have those genetically enhanced hormone levels - will never be able to compete fairly with those who do. How do you tell those who with a roll of the genetic dice came up with lower hormone levels - that they can't compete on a level playing field with those whose genetics blessed them with higher levels? Perhaps in the future competition will be classed and based on competitors genetics and hormone levels - and extension of the primitive concept of weight classes. Only the intellectually lite weights and ignorant fill to grasp the facts and the real questions of fairness involved here.
I think the idea that Stallone said this makes it look like a joke.

Sly was smart enough to dodge the Viet Nam war fiasco, smart enough to coach all girl soccer teams in Canada during that time, made a career as an action film character in spite of having little serious acting talent, invested in at least one successful celeb franchise business - Hard Roc Cafes and probably lots I have never come across - and that info came to mind without ever having even looked. He has apparently researched the benefits of hGH, knows a little something about its chemistry and biological impacts as an age related disease treatment. At 61 he looks better than 99% of most 61 year olds that I know. He may not be a genius, but he seems to have well used the intellectual resources he has - and that's a lot more than you can say about most celebs - or the avg. Joe. What is "smart" afterall?
The only reason Stallone came out with this now is because he was caught illegally sneaking in a bunch of vials into Australia last year to shoot the movie. Otherwise he wouldn't have offered his attorney's wisdom to the press. Maybe for the next Rambo he can lay off the HGH and let Mr. Bean take it. Then they could be equal and have a fair fight!
The use of HGH is clearly to make one more money. Athletes use it to be better, ergo, richer.
Sly used to look buffer, ergo, sell more tickets, ergo, richer.
Money will blind anyone using such things.
At what age will it be appropriate to use HGH to become better?
I don't know squat about bio research, but I sense danger here.
